About Yael Roge

Yael is a schoolteacher, mother of three and resident of Kfar Galim.  Both in the classroom, the schoolyard, and on class outings, Yael has frequently encountered medical emergencies, however, her lack of medical knowledge and training prevented her from treating the injured in any significant way.  Putting on a band-aid and kissing the child’s boo-boo is fine for a scraped knee, but not for a serious head wound, medical emergency or broken bone.  Yael realized that by learning medical emergency care, she would be able to contribute to her school and the community-at large in a very real and meaningful way.  When she saw an advert for a United Hatzalah EMT course, she jumped at the opportunity and has been volunteering for the past two years.

Yael’s wearing of her orange United Hatzalah vest initially raised some eyebrows, but all skepticism was quickly replaced by respect and admiration when they saw the mature schoolteacher racing to save lives.  Yael will never forget her first successful CPR; how a person who was clinically dead, with no pulse and no breath, could literally be  brought back to life.  To see them later, walking, talking, laughing and spending time with their family is a feeling that defies description.

Yael’s volunteer work with United Hatzalah has brought her much closer to the people of her community and given her the opportunity to give, give, and then give some more….every day of the year.
