Josh is a medical student who lives in Givat Shmuel with his wife Zahava. Six years ago, Josh joined United Hatzalah together with some friends who were looking to make an impact and give back to their community. Josh loves volunteering and helping others in need and gets tremendous satisfaction in knowing that he makes such a difference in people’s lives.
One of Josh’s most memorable incidents was when he was alerted that a woman was in premature labor. As he entered the house, a frantic man directed him to his wife, whose waters had just broke at week 32 of her pregnancy and who was struggling with intense, frequent contractions. Fearful of giving birth both prematurely and outside of a hospital setting, the woman was hysterical. The experienced medic reassured the woman as he prepared for imminent birth while coaching her into a position to deliver. Within minutes the baby was born, but unfortunately, the drama was not over. The minuscule baby was blue and struggling to breathe. Dripping with beads of sweat, Josh quickly cut the cord, warmed, dried and resuscitated the baby, fighting for his tiny life.
Josh finally left the scene drained and exhausted when the ambulance crew arrived to transport the new parents and baby to the hospital. A few months later, Josh was surprised to receive an emotional letter from the grateful parents expressing their overwhelming gratitude with a picture of their now healthy and beautiful baby! It is difficult to describe the deep satisfaction and joy that Josh experienced, knowing that he gave the gift of life to this family.
